Scunthorpe-based Pink Pig Farm has been named Britain’s best rural diversifier at the UK-wide Rural Business Awards.

Run in partnership with the CLA and supported by the countryside sector as well as MPs across the country, the Rural Business Awards are the UK’s only dedicated national business awards for the rural community.

The Pink Pig was the outright winner in the Outstanding Rural Diversification Project category at the ceremony held at The Belfry Hotel & Resort in the West Midlands on October 13.

The awards were split into 13 categories with a winner, runner-up and highly commended prize for each one.

The Pink Pig Farm started out as an arable only farm but over the last 14 years has grown from employing one man to having 38 staff.

Now it boasts a farm shop stocking free range pork, lamb and eggs, a butchery, deli, 90-seater restaurant, farm park and new indoor play barn.

The Pink Pig has more than 120,000 visitors a year, including 1,000 school children on organised visits.

Rural Business Awards co-founder Jemma Clifford said: “We simply loved the Pink Pig Farm, which was a clear winner in our diversification category.

“This is simply a fantastic, well diversified community-led project that is demonstrating significant success both in engagement and financials. A brilliant business.”
