Business representatives from across Lincolnshire came together for the latest in a series of Big Debates to discuss access to the European markets, farm subsidies and the future of migrant workers in food industry.

The panel was chaired by Mark Tinsley, LEP Board Director, and included MP for Greater Grimsby,Melanie Onn and Martin Vickers, MP for the Cleethorpes Constituency, along with Martin Collison from Collison Associates and James Truscott, Managing Director of Branton (Potatoes) Ltd.

Watch the debate highlights here:

Many delegates were concerned about the future of migrant workers in the food industry due to the difficulty to find British workers. Others were worried about the increased automatisation of low-skilled jobs.

Panelists said that more needed to be done to speak to college students about what the available job opportunities are in the area, as well as what sort of career they can lead to, in a bid to increase interest in the industry.
