Emily Page: “But nothing sells at Christmas…” Think again!

This story is over

There is a common myth amongst us that property does not sell at Christmas time.

However, figures collated from internet portals, such as Rightmove, show that the number of people searching and using these websites skyrockets during the festive period and therefore so do the number of viewings.

Figures show us that during the 2015 festive season house hunting saw a 20% increase in people looking for their dream home compared to 2012.

Somewhere between opening presents and serving up Christmas dinner, Rightmove had a cracking 14 million page views on their website on Christmas Day alone!

This figure jumped to a whopping 25 million on Boxing Day and then increased dramatically again to over 38 million page views on New Years Day 2016!

In January 2016 Mundys sold over 40 properties and registered over 500 new buyers. We had a fantastic start to the year and we expect 2017 to get off to a flying start too, especially with our new dedicated lettings office in the city centre.

So why wait until spring time to market your property when we have potential buyers who are looking now?

Christmas can be a great time to sell your property as it provides you with the perfect opportunity to show off your home at its best; festive, cosy, warm and inviting.

Your viewers will be able to envisage themselves in your home with their own families at Christmas time and this will help to draw them in.

Start off by making sure the heating is on and the house is nice and warm, this will help to set the perfect environment for when your viewers arrive out of the cold.

First impressions count so tidy up outside and hang a festive wreath on the front door. Christmas decorations inside will instantly make your home feel cheerful and you can use throws and cushions in the living room and bedrooms to make the property feel cosy.

Remember on darker winter days there’s not much natural lighting so be sure to draw back all curtains and blinds and turn on all lamps to banish dark corners and help give your home a cosy, warm glow.

This will add to the inviting friendly atmosphere you are trying to achieve. Try to make the most of the season, if you wait for the New Year you could miss out on some great opportunities.
