New farm shop and antiques centre opens in Messingham

A new farm shop, cafe, florist and antiques centre has officially opened in Messingham, near Scunthorpe, which is expected to create up to 30 new jobs.

Messingham Farm Shop & Café was officially opened on Saturday, February 4 in the former Messingham Primary School and was attended by celebrity antiques expert Mark Franks, who gave verbal valuations on jewellery throughout the day.

Steve Kirby, owner of the business, saw the school was up for sale and instantly fell in love with it.

Having attended farmers markets in the area for the last three years, selling fresh eggs and chicken, Steve said the school was perfect for conversion to a farm shop.

Steve has 39 years experience in Hatton Gardens, buying and selling jewellery and antiques, which is why the Antique Centre is also part of the business.

The site also includes a deli and butchers, which will provide shoppers with fresh local meat sourced from a traditional family butcher, along with  wide selection of organic vegetables, artisan breads, olives and more.

Steve Kirby said: “I wanted to make sure everything was perfect before we opened the doors. The feedback we have received since we launched our Facebook page is fantastic and very encouraging.”
