Developers will provide a boost to Lincoln’s accommodation offer after planners gave the green light to proposals for a budget Travelodge hotel off the East West Link Road.

As reported previously, the 127 bedroom hotel will be built on land off the city’s new East West Link Road and behind the ongoing transport hub.

Developers S Harrison Development and Travelodge will create between 15 and 20 new jobs in the city.

The hotel will comprise 60 double bedrooms, 61 family rooms and six accessible rooms spread across five floors.

On the ground floor there will be cafe and breakfast facilities as well as a 22-space car park.

The land was purchased for an undisclosed sum from the city council back in March.

The council’s planning committee approved the proposals as a meeting on Wednesday, May 24.

Development Director David Clancy from S Harrison said previously that work on the development could start as early as this autumn.

He said: “We take great pleasure in facilitating Travelodge’s expansion in Lincoln. There is definitely room in the marketplace for a quality hotel that offers great value accommodation and the development as a whole will bolster the local economy and create new jobs.”

“The hotel will certainly benefit from such a superb location, with a prominent position on the recently opened East-West link road. Its proximity to the city’s High Street, and the fact it’s also just yards from the railway station and the new transport hub that is currently under construction, will no doubt also add to its appeal.”

Strategic Property Services Manager, Mark Wheater, from City of Lincoln Council says: “The proposed Travelodge will be an excellent facility for tourists and visitors to Lincoln and will form an important part of the wider transport hub development creating new jobs for the City ”
