Lincolnshire Co-op has outlined its plans to invest £1.7 million in a new convenience shop in North Hykeham, creating 15 new jobs.

The former used car dealership site on Newark Road will be redeveloped into a 3,000 sq ft shop offering items such as chilled and fresh food, beer and wine, hot food to go and a Costa Coffee machine.

The society bought the premises for an undisclosed sum after owners of Martin’s Motor Company made the decision to retire.

The used car dealership is to be turned into a Lincolnshire Co-op convenience store.

Work will be undertaken to clear the site in the coming months and construction is planned to begin this autumn.

The store is expected to open in spring 2018 and will also include a 21-space car park including two disabled spaces.

The new store will be in addition to the current Lincolnshire Co-op food store, pharmacy and post office in the centre of North Hykeham.

Lincolnshire Co-op’s Store Development Manager Matt Wilkinson said: “We’re excited to be developing a new food store to serve shoppers in North Hykeham.

“As a convenience store operator we’re always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers. Newark Road is a vibrant and busy area and this store will offer products that shoppers can easily eat on the go, grab for dinner or stock their cupboards with.

“Both full and part-time jobs will be created when the store opens, and it will benefit the surrounding community in other ways.

“Our Community Champions scheme helps store colleagues and shoppers support local good causes together.

“We look forward to welcoming customers to their new store in spring.”
