Plans for a former bank to be transformed into a new bar and restaurant have been approved by councillors.

At a North East Lincolnshire Council planning committee meeting on May 24, councillors gave the proposals on Sea View Street in Cleethorpes the green light.

The restaurant will serve a range of food and drink and will keep majority of the features used in the former HSBC bank.

Three large windows to the front of the property will be replaced with timber windows and there will be alterations to the area of the former cash machine and night deposit box.

In a supporting document, planners said: “The vision for the building is to be a destination venue that slots perfectly into life on Sea View Street, offering guests an amazing all-day dining experience.

“Transforming the original venue of the bank, whilst still retaining the stunning features within – the visual aspect will not disappoint, and the concept is set to guarantee the future long term success of this significant building on Sea View Street.

“The current condition of the building means the structural integrity will remain as is, and original features will only be further enhanced in the refurbishment.

“The aim is to create a professional establishment, complementing the existing food and drink offerings currently available, whilst offering something a little bit different.

“This destination restaurant will maximise footfall to the area, benefiting surrounding local retail businesses from an overall increase in desirable trade, and further cement Sea View Street’s reputation as a haven for independent businesses.”
