Councillors have approved plans for a new Go Ape assault course to be built in North Lincolnshire.

Plans, submitted by Adventure Forest Ltd (Go Ape), will now go ahead for the course to be built at Normaby Hall Country Park, five miles to the north of Scunthorpe.

Go Ape is a high ropes obstacle course with zip wires and rope swings with different levels of challenge.

The nearest Go Ape is in Nottinghamshire.

The site will now have a high ropes course with an associated reception cabin utilising an existing building.

It will form part of the woodland belonging to the Normanby Hall Country Park and estate which extends to 300 acres in area and contains a Grade I listed Mansion Hall.

Frances Buck, business development manager at Go Ape, said: “We are really excited to be bringing Go Ape to Normanby Hall Country Park and can’t wait to share our Tree Top Adventure experience, which includes zip wires, swings and rope crossings, with people and visitors to the area.

“As well as bringing a challenging, adventurous and fun activity to the heart of North Lincolnshire we’ll also be creating around 30 jobs as well as investing £300,000 in the community.

“A lot of planning and consideration has gone into the site and we are looking forward to starting work this autumn with a view to opening next Easter.”

Councillor Rob Waltham, leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m delighted that the Planning Committee has approved plans to bring top tourist attraction Go Ape to our award-winning Normanby Hall Country Park.

“This is a huge private sector investment that will create jobs and put North Lincolnshire on a national platform and bring thousands of visitors to this fantastic area, who will want to return once they experience what the area has to offer.

“The move signifies a firm commitment from Go Ape to develop North Lincolnshire as a top tourist destination. I can’t think of a better place to host Go Ape than Normanby Hall Country Park. It will provide a major boost to the area and to local businesses.”
