Sports giant sets sights on Lincoln for new gym and shopping complex
Sports Direct plans to open an own-brand gym and shop and its first city Flannels store selling designer clothing on a site next to the Morrisons supermarket off Tritton Road in Lincoln.
It is anticipated that the 6,716 sqm development would create around 160 jobs.
Over 230 car parking spaces are included in the plans.
The Sports Direct shop will feature many of the company’s brands such as Lonsdale, Firetrap and Dunlop.
Flannels will specialise in designer closing and accessories.
Sports Direct Property Ltd said: “The proposed gym will include a range of cardio-vascular and resistance equipment for individual use together with studios providing space for exercise classes to take place.
“Additional facilities such as a reception area, changing rooms and seating area will complete the experience for users.”
Planning permission already exits on the application site for the majority of floorspace asked for in the application.
The developers added: “Lincoln city centre has been shown to be experiencing strong levels of vitality and viability with steady vacancy levels.
“The impact has shown that there will be minimal impacts experienced and these are offset by the substantial growth in comparison good turnover expected over the test years as well as the proposed development in the St Marks Centre redevelopment.”
Plans will be considered by the City of Lincoln Council at a later date.
