Funding leads to meaty expansion for Scunthorpe business

A family butcher based in Scunthorpe will expand thanks to funding from UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE).

Taylor’s Family Butchers secured £1,000, which it will invest in new equipment and build a hospitality arm for the business.

The company, which specialises in locally sourced meat to shoppers, pubs and restaurants, will purchase a vacuum packer machine which it deems essential to breaking the hospitality market.

Based on Ashby High Street, the business has recently grown from three to 15 employees since it first opened in August 2016 to manage increasing demand.

Owner Ashley Taylor said: “It’s quite incredible how much of a success Taylor’s Family Butchers is becoming, we’ve received an overwhelming response from the local community in the last year, with queues often out of the door on Saturdays!

“The funding has been vital to our establishment, and has allowed us to expand our customer reach as we now have many restaurant, pub and hotel clients.”

Launched in February 2016, the UKSE Kickstart Fund – working in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council and the Growth Hub to support those looking to establish a business in the area – provides grants up to £1,000.

Allan Wood, a representative from UK Steel Enterprise, added: “Within its first year of trading, the butchers shop has created fifteen job opportunities in the local area, and with its growing customer base we are looking forward to seeing how it plans to move forward.”
