Toys R Us confirms all UK stores will close

Toy retailer Toys R Us has confirmed it will be closing all of its UK stores within the next six weeks – resulting in 3,000 job losses nationwide.

This comes after the national retailer announced it had gone into administration last month.

Toys R Us appointed administrators on Wednesday, February 28 to begin an ‘orderly wind-down’ as it had been unable to find a new buyer for the firm.

The firm had been facing a £15 million tax bill at the end of February and poor sales through the Christmas period made it difficult for the company to make the payment.

It was announced in December 2017 that the Scunthorpe store would close later this year due to it being ‘too expensive to run’ and now the Lincoln store at St Marks will follow suit.

All 105 Toys R Us stores will close within the next six weeks.
