A daring high wire attraction could help to ‘bring new life and vitality to the area and enhance Skegness’ says the trust in charge of leisure facilities in the resort.

The proposed 21-metre high structure, has been proposed to East Lindsey District Council by Magna Vitae which wants to build the attraction in the Skegness Pool and Leisure Centre off the junction between Grand Parade and Tower Esplanade.

Proposals submitted to the authority said: “Magna Vitae are focused on achieving higher levels of participants/visitors to the area and recreational facilities.

“The Estates Strategy has identified that the construction of a high wire will provide a unique recreational offering and will attract more users to the area for the whole year around as opposed to just in the peak months.

“The proposed high wire structure will provide an eye catching, innovative attraction for visitors that can be seen from a distance.

“It will be a feature from the sea front. The structure is located and orientated to take advantage of the clear views of the site from the adjacent busy road and pedestrian network.”

Magna Vitae hope the new structure will encourage more users to the existing facilities, provide a ‘unique to the area’ recreational facility to entice visitors all year round, encourage people into a more active life style and help develop partnerships with the area.

They say a number of opportunities will be created to provide a ‘high quality leisure attraction’ and introduce a ‘further statement structure’ which will complement the area.

The site currently houses a nearby kiosk with timber lean-to, which could be converted into an internal seating area with café and reception.

The application also includes plans to use part of the leisure centre as offices and storage for the high wire.
