Get a taste of Kine – Lincoln’s newest restaurant opening this week

A new sit down restaurant will open on West Parade later this week, promising fresh seasonal changing local produce and CityX took a sneak peek tour around the new venue.

Owner Jason Castle will be opening Kine in the former The Optimist Wine Bar to the public on Saturday, September 15 from 12pm until 10pm, and hopes to bring something new to the city.

Following a complete renovation, the restaurant welcomed its first guests on Sunday, September 2 for an exclusive taster evening ahead of the official opening.

The new restaurant, which will be open Thursday to Saturday from 12pm-10pm and Sundays 12pm-6pm, has created around seven jobs in the area and promises to bring a small but refined menu to cater for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike, with a fresh approach to produce.

Visitors to the restaurant can expect a range of freshly prepared meals, all cooked by head chef Phil Sethna, who has worked around the world in London, Spain, Tokyo and Sweden, as well as opening two restaurants in Mexico.

Phil told CityX: “We are super produce focused and we don’t want to put a label on the food.

“What we want to do is source the best possible ingredients that we can.”

Jason, who previously worked as a documentary cameraman for the like of David Attenborough, started his restaurant career with various pop-up events in the city, and following positive feedback from local people, decided to launch this new venture.

He told CityX: “It has taken took over a year of planning and pop-up events to decide to get a permanent venue however I wanted to do lots more than burgers and take the fresh local approach but broaden the menu ideas.

“I came back from a month away working in Russia and the premises I always had my eye on came up so I went for it and decided a change of career was what I was after.

“It’s taken a few months to get to this point but it’s been well worth it.

“The tasting evening went very well, and the feedback was exceptional, the place, the food, the drink, the experience as a whole was enjoyed by all and has given us the feedback we need to fine tune our restaurant.

“When the decision was made to open a restaurant because we wanted to be more than just a burger bar.

“Kine will be a relaxed, sit down restaurant with a great selection of wines and bottled beers with a local lager on tap from FAB brewery out in Fiskerton, many of which are vegan friendly.”
