Councillors last night approved plans for a seven storey building to provide student accommodation alongside a commercial unit along Clasketgate – despite it previously getting the green light for a hotel.
Submitted by Jackon & Jackson Developments, the site at 27-29 Clasketgate, will now see 114 bed spaces of student accommodation.
Currently, the site comprises a three storey white rendered building, formerly the office of Pygott and Crone Estate Agency, and associated car parking to the rear.
Previously, plans were approved for a 63-bedroom hotel and restaurant at the site, which were submitted by Mike Hayes-Cowley, who currently leases the New Theatre Royal.
However, Jackson & Jackson Developments later acquired the site as an extension to the previously approved Grantham Street development, which will include 118 student rooms and an NCP car park.
Domink Jackson, Director at Jackson & Jackson Developments told CityX: “We are really pleased to have achieved full permission last night to extend the Swan St Apartments scheme.
“This extends the existing scheme from Grantham Street down towards Flaxengate.
“This will perfectly fill the University of Lincoln 2019 accommodation requirement and assist with the longer term success of the UoL.
“It’s great to see the University go from strength to strength and we’re pleased we can support with so much local involvement from the development team through to construction.”
The 232 bed student accommodation is due to be open for September 2019.
