Britain’s best to parade through Lincoln for Armistice Day

The city of Lincoln will play host to a special remembrance service this Armistice Day, as members of all three armed forces march through the city centre.

This year commemorates the centenary of the end of World War One, and on Saturday, November 10, one of the country’s most poignant celebrations will be in Lincoln, with an estimated 90 military personnel taking part from the Army, Navy and RAF, in what is believed to be the only event of its kind taking place over Remembrance Weekend.

From 10:30am, troops from all three forces will march from St Martin’s Square, past the city’s historic Guildhall, down the High Street before stopping for a wreath-laying service at the War Memorial on Lincoln High Street.

After the service, the troops will continue southward towards the Cornhill area of the city. Finally, the parade will be dismissed in City Square, marking the end of the event.

The Lincoln Armistice Service is an annual event organised by City of Lincoln with the help of the Royal British Legion.

Kate Fenn, Civic and International Partnerships Manager said: “We are honoured to be hosting such a prestigious ceremony for the city of Lincoln.

“It is a very rare occasion for all three armed forces to parade together in public, so we are expecting lots of visitors to come to Lincoln to enjoy it.

“We have troops parading from the Royal Navy, RAF Waddington, RAF Scampton and the Royal Anglian Regiment.

“The city has a proud military past and will be the perfect setting for such a special ceremony.”
