Local family diversifies working farm with new accommodation business

A North Lincolnshire family has launched a self-catered accommodation business alongside its working farm.

The family has introduced three modern apartments to The Old Granary at their farm in Owmby, and aim to target businesses and people looking to work in the county.

A significant sum has been spent on transforming an old barn onsite, creating one two-bed apartment and two one-bed apartments.

Named The Gables, The Mill and The Smithy, apartments start at £85 per night and include parking and a welcome pack with essentials to make your stay much easier; including tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a selection of breakfast cereal.

Louise Wright, along with her sister Clare Davies and their father, came up with the idea as a way of diversifying the working farm, which grows potatoes and arable crops including wheat, barley, oilseed rape and sugar beet.

Both Louise and Clare have backgrounds in events and hospitality, having previously worked in London.

Louise told CityX: “We are primarily aiming for people working in Lincolnshire but obviously open to anyone coming for leisure.

“With Brexit on the horizon and with Clare and I returning to the farm we looked at various opportunities to diversify.

“The barns are absolutely beautiful and have an amazing heritage. It was a case of they fall down or we do something with them.

“It is very much a family affair and none of it could have been done without all of us sharing our expertise.

“We are really looking forward to welcoming guests and combining our experience of hospitality and events with dad’s farming expertise to drive the business forward.

“It has been a long time coming, and lots of family meetings but I am so happy with the result.

“It has been a really busy year, and not without its challenges, but we are now getting a lot of interest and enquires!”
