Lincoln’s HMV safe as company sold to Canadian music boss

It has been announced that Lincoln’s HMV is safe from immediate closure after the company fell into administration for a second time.

The company fell into administration for a second time after Christmas, but has now been rescued from collapse by Canadian music entrepreneur Doug Putman, who runs retailer Sunrise Record.

As part of the take over, 100 HMV stores will remain open, protecting almost 1,500 jobs across the country.

However, 27 stores in locations across the UK will close, including the site of the music and entertainment retailer’s first store on London’s Oxford Street.

The administrators of HMV, KPMG, has released a list of HMV stores which are set to close, these include:

  • Chichester
  • Exeter, Princesshay
  • Fopp, Bristol
  • Fopp, Glasgow Byres
  • Fopp, Manchester
  • Fopp, Oxford
  • Glasgow, Braehead
  • Guernsey
  • Hereford
  • Manchester, Trafford
  • Merry Hill
  • Oxford Street
  • Peterborough, Queensgate
  • Plymouth, Drake Circus
  • Reading
  • Sheffield, Meadowhall
  • Southport
  • Thurrock
  • Tunbridge
  • Uxbridge
  • Watford
  • Westfield
  • Wimbledon

These closures will lead to 455 job losses and a further 122 warehouse jobs in coming weeks.
