First Chow Down food festival sees 15k visitors to Lincoln Castle

Following the success of the Easter Weekender at Lincoln Castle, which brought 15,000 food and drink fans into the grounds between April 19-22, organisers are expecting an even bigger turn out for the Summer Weekender, set to be held from the June 28-30.

Having held its inaugural Chow Down festival last year in the central piazza of Halifax’s marvellous Grade I-listed Piece Hall, Chow Down added some guest dates this year, and Lincoln Castle was site of choice for two Chow Down festival weekenders.

The biggest Northern food festival attracted more than 120,000 food fans over 4 weekends last summer, and this year’s festival season was kicked off with the Easter Weekender at Lincoln Castle.

The weekend saw another festival of family-friendly fun and food, as craft beer, cocktails and live music nestled shoulder-to-shoulder in the castle’s grounds alongside a range of food stalls, from Dutch pancakes and waffles to duck wraps, Yorkshire wagyu beef and Malaysian curries.

Simon Fogal, founder of Chow Down and Leeds Indie Food said: “It was so exciting to take Chow Down on tour, bringing all of our diverse foodie favourites to a new venue, and a new audience.

“All our vendors had a wonderful (and busy, and hot!) time last weekend in Lincoln!

“It seems Lincoln’s foodies did too, with 15,000 coming down to take part. See you at the end of June for the next Chow Down Lincoln!”

Ellen Kelman, Hospitality Manager Lincoln Castle added: “We were so excited to bring Chow Down to Lincoln, and the Easter weekend proved just how great a family-friendly food festival can be for our city!

“We’re already looking forward to the next one.”
