Meet the judges for the 2019 Lincolnshire Technology and Innovation Awards

Entries are in and the judges have now been announced for the Lincolnshire Technology and Innovation Awards 2019.

The awards organised by CityX recognise, celebrate and reward Lincolnshire’s use of innovative and creative technology, raising the profile of innovators and tech communities across the region.

Sponsored by University of Lincoln Research & Enterprise, Streets Chartered Accountants, Streets Heaver Healthcare Computing, Cooke & Mason, Peachy Events and Lincoln College Group, the awards ceremony will take place on June 13 at Lincolnshire Showground.

This year, with over 100 applications once again, CityX has chosen judges from outside the county.

Megan Bates, Events and Marketing Manager at CityX said: “Once again we have had over 100 awards entries and it has been brilliant to see a huge amount of new people and businesses entering as well!

“This year to celebrate our 5th birthday we are delighted to present a very special line-up of expert judges with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise from across the United Kingdom. We will also be hosting a memorable awards ceremony and afterparty on Thursday, June 13 which we are very much looking forward to.

Meet the 2019 judges:

Liz Scott

Head of Entrepreneur Engagement, Tech Nation.

Tech Nation is a company which aims to empower ambitious tech entrepreneurs to grow faster through growth programmes, digital entrepreneurship skills, a visa scheme for exceptional talent.

The company champions the UK’s digital sector through data, stories and media campaigns.

Claire Clark

Director of Development, Sauce.

Claire has achieved significant career milestones and achievements throughout her career in the Tech and software engineering industry, which is a male dominated industry.

Claire is a Chartered Engineer, has memberships to a number of professional institutions.

Claire specialises in Change Management and Planning in complex, quality technical environments. Since graduating with BSc Hons Computer Science with Information Engineering at the University of Hull, Claire has achieved several industry recognised professional project management related qualifications and has progressed her career through a number of engineering roles to her current role of Director of Development at Sauce, a multi-award winning software development company based in C4DI in Hull.

Dr Calie Pistorius

Director, Delta Hedron.

Dr Calie Pistorius is the Director of Delta Hedron Ltd, a UK-based consultancy specialising in the management of innovation, technology intelligence and decision support to assess the strategic business impact, opportunities and risks presented by emerging technologies.

He is a Chartered Engineer and an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard Business School, Ohio State University and the University of Pretoria; an extraordinary professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch and a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull in the UK and the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where he was also the Director of the Institute for Technological Innovation and Chairman of the National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI).

His consulting clients include companies in the telecommunications, construction, information technology, steel, energy, mining, chemical, electronics, food and beverage, paper and pulp, health and fitness, education as well as aerospace sectors.

Susan Hallam

Director, Hallam.

With more than 30 years’ experience working in the digital industry, Susan Hallam is a leading influencer in the internet world and a thought leader who inspires businesses to greater success through digital engagement.

She is a practicing digital marketing consultant, a public speaker, and Founder/CEO of Hallam one of the UK’s leading digital agencies.

As Chair of the Board of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, Susan is committed to the growth of the city’s creative economy, and developing Nottingham’s reputation as a great place to live, learn, work, and invest.

Tanya Suarez

CEO, IoT Tribe.

Tanya is the founder of IoT Tribe, an equity-free accelerator that brings start-ups and corporates together to do business.

The firm’s current programme, IoT Tribe North is based at the Digital Media Centre, Barnsley, UK, and is supporting 9 IoT start-ups across multiple domains to improve their products, gain market traction and secure investment for growth.

IoT Tribe arose from Startup Scaleup, the Startup Europe IoT accelerator which supported 132 startups through hubs in Dublin, Madrid-Cartagena, Vilnius and Zoetermeer.

A firm believer that there can be no strategy without innovation, Tanya also founded BluSpecs team, a boutique innovation agency with a passion for embracing disruption through market-driven innovation and co-creation across multiple sectors.

Tom Cartledge

Tom joined Benoy, a global architectural and design company, in 2014 and two years later was appointed to the role of CEO. Since then, Benoy has been joined by two sister businesses – Holmes Wood and Uncommon Land – and Tom now heads up the newly formed Handley House Group.

Prior to this, Tom led a successful career in commercial property with roles in London as an agent, development advisor and latterly a board member and group property director of a US retail business.

Today, under Tom’s leadership, Handley House brings together creative talent, technical knowledge and expertise across a range of disciplines in diverse markets, from design solutions for the built environment to wayfinding, graphic design and landscaping.

Sarah Mintey

CEO, Developing Experts.

Sarah is the CEO and Founder of Developing Experts and has 20 years experience in education and the third sector.

Previously, she was CEO of the OPEN Youth Trust and most recently worked for Inspiration Trust as their curriculum designer.

Developing Experts is a global Tech Start-Up based in Norwich which centres on a digital platform featuring a library of over 700 lessons, activities, and assessments for teachers and parents. The business was founded in 2015 thanks to funding from New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership as well as angel investors and has since gone from strength to strength, securing contracts overseas as well as expanding its team to 20+ staff.

Robert Dawson

CEO, Vet-AI.

Robert Dawson is the Co-Founder of Leeds tech start-up Vet-AI.

Vet-AI’s vision is to combine the expertise of highly-qualified vets and groundbreaking new technologies to deliver affordable, mobile on-demand veterinary care direct to pet owners.

Vet-AI has partnered with three of the worlds largest animal pharmaceutical companies and has a wholesaler in place that can ship treatments and products direct to the consumer within 24 hours. They are working closely alongside Leeds University, Leeds Beckett University and in close communication with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Tong Gu

Investment Lead, Accelerated Digital Ventures.

At ADV, Tong is responsible for sourcing and executing direct investments.

Companies ADV invest in combine innovative business models and cutting edge technologies to create value for their customers.

Her belief is that this industry is people-based, which is why she spends her time building relationships with entrepreneurs, innovators, and thought leaders in technology across the UK.

A geek at heart, Tong left her career as a VP in Tech and Media investment banking to found a successful market intelligence startup, focused on data crawling, analytics and visualisation.

Richard Abrahams

Founding Team Member, PwC | Raise

Richard is one of the founding team members of PwC’s Raise Investment programme.

Raise Investment is a face-to-face service to help scale-ups like you give yourselves the best chance of securing Series A funding (£1m-£10m and beyond) by making sure you’re investor ready, introducing you to venture capital firms and Family Officers and working with you to help you get the terms that’s right for you and your business.

Outside of work Richard also mentors two tech businesses and is also a judge for Tech Nation’s Rising Stars programme.

Callum Quirk

Campaign Associate, Seedrs.

Callum Quirk has been a Campaign Associate for Seedrs since 2018. Based in East London’s Tech City, Seedrs is Europe’s largest equity crowdfunding platform for investing in startups and later-stage businesses.

Seedrs has been named the most active investor in private companies in the UK. The platform allows all types of investors invest in businesses they believe in and share in their success and allow all types of growth-focused businesses raise capital and business community in the process.

Prior to his role at Seedrs Callum was part of the Business Development team at Eventbrite.

Winners of the 2019 Lincolnshire Technology and Innovation Awards will be announced at a ceremony on Thursday, June 13 at Lincolnshire Showground. Tickets for the ceremony will be on sale next week.
