Over 400 Lincolnshire jobs at risk as Spalding Bakery faces closure

Some 405 Lincolnshire jobs have been put at risk as the parent company of Spalding Bakery has announced closure plans.

Addo Food Group, which owns the baker on Fulney Lane, has opened talks with its staff to shut the 40-year-old bakery.

The close would affect 405 employees at Spalding Bakery.

The bakery, which would close in 2020 if proposals go ahead, specialises in the manufacturing of popular snacking items including sausage rolls, pizza pockets, mini burgers and mini pasties.

Deborah Bolton, CEO at Addo, said: “In order to maintain our market-leading position and meet customer expectations as efficiently as possible, we need to optimise our manufacturing sites to enable a continued investment in quality, service, product and packaging innovation.

“This proposal will allow us to achieve this and whilst we fully understand the disappointment of this announcement for all of our employees, we are committed to doing everything possible to support them over the coming weeks, especially those who would be directly affected.”
