Local social housing provider, Acis, has revealed a £20 million affordable housing scheme for Gainsborough.

The firm is looking to build a mix of various affordable housing types from over 55 accommodation to family homes.

The homes are set to be built on a riverside setting on Bowling Green Lane, in the town centre, close to Mercer Wood and Riverside Walk.

The site is currently a brownfield site and has also in one of the areas designated as a Housing Zone.

However, West Lindsey District Council, has been awarded £2.1 million by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP) to enable the development.

Acis will be developing the mixed private and social housing scheme, seeking to deliver a large proportion of social housing to meet the needs of the local area.

The scheme, which is subject to planning permission, will provide Acis an opportunity to update its existing stock and to provide housing to existing and new tenants.

Leader of West Lindsey District Council, Cllr Giles McNeill said: “I am delighted that Acis are looking to expanding their portfolio of homes in West Lindsey and making a substantial investment in social housing in our district.

“Not only in providing these new homes but in their wider plans to renew their stock across the district.

“We recognise that housing is key to the success of our communities as well as being of paramount importance to the quality of life, health and wellbeing of residents and I am pleased that developments like this are helping us to deliver the objectives of Homes England.”

Acis will be holding a public consultation event for the site on September 4 at Gainsborough College from 2pm to 7pm.
