Lincoln’s first cat cafe on Silver Street is set to open next month, the owner has confirmed.
Coffee Cats Lincoln is set to open in September at 38-39 Silver Street in the former Winkworth estate agents building.
Opening six days a week, the space will be converted into a space designed for ‘cats and humans to relax, mix and enjoy each other’s company’.
Alongside offer a cafe atmosphere, the business also plans to host events targeted at leisure, wellbeing and animal welfare including:
- Cat Yoga
- Poetry Nights
- Animal welfare events
Customers will be restricted to a maximum of 15 people at any one time, aged 11 years plus.
The cats’ home will be designed to enable them to climb, play and rest, and there will be a separate area for cats who need a break from people.
Cat food, beds and litter trays will be located in a private area.
‘Cat Cams’ will also be installed to ensure cats are monitored at all times.
It is hoped the cafe will have around 8-10 rescue cats, all of a quiet nature.
A spokesperson for Coffee Cats told CityX: “Things are progressing, even though we’re behind in converting the space due to delays of materials, contractors etc. This has had a knock on effect of delaying bringing the cats in to settle, so we’re probably a couple of weeks behind.
“The really tricky bit will be settling the cats in but we always knew the opening will have to be done gradually.
“Although we have first-hand experience of the cat cafe environment, we will be working closely with the local council and animal welfare sector to address any issues that may arise.
“We feel the cafe will fit in well with the variety of businesses already in Lincoln and complement the coffee shops already in the area.
“We hope it will also become an attraction and place to visit for tourists in the area.”
Although the company hopes to open by the end of September, an official opening date has not been set.
