Year in Review: Paul Reames – A busy year for Bluecube

This story is over

As another year nears its end, I’m yet again left wondering where the months have gone. Then I was asked by CityX to reflect on the year and summarise the main events and I realised what a busy year 2019 has been for Bluecube!

The year started with an office move; we had been at the Think Tank for seven happy years but had been looking for a place to call our own for quite some time before we decided to move to The Gateway in Lincoln’s city centre in January.

The new office gives us more room and a demo suite where customers can try the system and look at different device options before making a final buying decision.

To coincide with the new office, we decided to go all in and have a complete rebrand whilst relaunching our new look website too. Our outsourced marketing team at Epix Media were asked to define us as experts in cloud telephony as part of
the rebrand and the general consensus from staff and customers alike is that they nailed it!

In the spring we launched the 2019 Business Golf League that we run in partnership with the Lincolnshire Chamber. The golf league begins in March and concludes in September with a final at one of Lincolnshire’s premier courses. A few of us also climbed Mount Snowdon in Wales as part of an industry cloud communications summit (cloud… mountain… get it?) hosted by a key supplier of ours.

The summer of 2019 saw us renew our association with Lincoln City Football Club for another season who had just been promoted to EFL League 1. The business also hit a key milestone in June this year managing over one million minutes of business calls in a single month on our cloud telephony platform.

The latter half of the year has seen two important product launches from Bluecube, Akixi is our live call reporting software and it proved very popular with old and new customers alike. We also recently launched UC-One Trio a new softphone with collaboration tools allowing the end user to host a call (via video if required) whilst also hosting a virtual meeting that invitees can login to.

The year as a whole has been an incredibly busy one with some exciting new customers of all shapes and sizes joining Bluecube’s cloud revolution by adding to our fast-growing customer base. The objective for 2019 was to ensure that we let as many local businesses as possible that there was a big change coming to business telephony. The ISDN and analogue shut down between now and 2025 requires businesses to move to some form of internet-based telephony soon.

We feel we’ve made plenty of the right kind of noise in 2019 but also that 2020 presents another challenge in getting the more change adverse organisations to take the digital deadline seriously.

What do we want from 2020? Our long-term ambition is to become the East Midlands region’s leading provider of cloud telephony, we’re hoping that next year will keep us on the path to achieving that goal.
