Year in Review: TurnerWarran – Celebrating 25 years in business

This story is over

After qualifying as an accountant, Kevin returned to his hometown of Brigg and set up the company, initially with just a handful of clients. Since then, TurnerWarran has grown to become one of the largest sole practitioners in the North Lincolnshire region, with clients located nationally.

Over the last two decades, we have grown from strength to strength and earlier this year TurnerWarran celebrated our 25th anniversary. This growth has predominantly been due to client recommendations and straightforward, practical business advice.

In addition to accountancy and bookkeeping, a wide range of business services are provided including corporate finance, business advice and tax planning. In September 2019, TurnerWarran partnered with a local Wealth Management company.

They are able to offer an added value service to both new and existing clients and we feel this will benefit our clients significantly.

In July 2017 HMRC announced that all businesses registered for VAT with a taxable turnover over £85,000, would have to keep full digital records and submit their VAT returns through functional compatible software, this is known as Making Tax Digital.

At the beginning of the year TurnerWarran held a seminar in conjunction with NatWest Bank providing clients and non-clients with all the information they needed to ensure they were prepared and compliant ahead of the April deadline.

Throughout the year, TurnerWarran has also held regular workshops, hosted by a member of the team, demonstrating the various options of software available to clients, to ensure that the most appropriate software was used that would best suit their business needs and requirements. To help assist businesses through this process their members of staff are certified in the installation and training of multiple software packages, including QuickBooks, Sage, FreeAgent and Xero.

From April 2020, HMRC announced that ALL businesses registered for VAT, regardless of their taxable turnover, will have to comply with these new Making Tax Digital rules. It was previously announced that from April 2020, it would be introduced for income tax which has now being postponed, with a date yet to be confirmed.

HMRC was due to introduce the new VAT: domestic reverse charge from October 1, 2019, however due to other issues, this has now being deferred to October 1, 2020. There will be further details of this on our social media and website.

Over the next year we will be keeping all of our clients and potential new clients up to date with all the latest news and information released by HMRC that will affect them.

Over the past year we have attended many networking events and Expos, in a bid to increase our visibility in the Lincolnshire area. We are also excited to be exhibiting for a second year at the CityX Lincolnshire Business Expo on January 15, 2020.

Without the continued support of those in the community, we would not be able to provide the professional, friendly and efficient service that we do now. So, looking forward to 2020, we aim to be able to fully support those who have been with us over the past 25 years.

We look forward to a continued relationship with them and we look forward to meeting new clients and businesses and hopefully become a part of their journey.
