CityX took five minutes out of the busy schedule to speak to Richard Jones of EV Camel, to find out more about his business, how 2019 has been and his plans for 2020:
Tell us about the business, what is it you do?
“EV Camel helps businesses and homeowners with the design installation and operation of charging points for electric cars.”
When was the business formed and how has that changed over the years?
“The business was formed at the end of 2017 to be the first of its kind dedicated to the installation of EV charging points in Lincolnshire.”
How has your industry changed over time?
“In 2018 and even in the early part of 2019, although electric cars were much heralded, not many were actually being delivered by the manufacturers. This has changed significantly over the last 6 to 9 months and consequently the demand for home chargers has taken off.
“As the choice of electric cars and plug-in hybrids is increasing and with the imminent change of the benefit in kind arrangements, businesses are now starting to ask for charge points in greater numbers.
“The service that we offer in partnership with VendElectric and Rolec means that our customers can track who is charging and when, the amount of electricity used and payment for this can be easily managed.”
Tell us a bit about how the business has done in 2019?
“During 2019 we have invested in our own public access charge points at locations such as the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln, the Meridian leisure centre in Louth and Rand Farm Park.”
What are your proudest moments within the business in 2019?
“We have developed a number of business partnerships that will start to see our presence expand nationally as well as across Lincolnshire.
“We are also proud to have been nominated for an innovation award at the Lincolnshire property and construction awards 2020.”
What can customers expect from the business in 2020?
“During 2020 we will grow our design and installation capacity, alongside further securing our brand as the go-to company for EV Charging advice in the region.
“Working with our partners we will offer new products and enhanced services in order to make sure that we stay at the cutting edge of technology.”
