Just 24 hours after the Department of Culture, Media and Sport said there was ‘no rationale’ for considering cancelling national sporting events, policies put in place by local businesses in reaction to COVID-19 has started to impact on local events including the postponement of the LEP Skills Conference.
The event, which was due to take place at the Lincolnshire Showground on Thursday 19th March, is now being rescheduled for Tuesday 13th October after several businesses decided to cancel their involvement due to restrictions and policies designed to protect staff and business continuity.
The newly selected Chair of the GLLEP, Pat Doody said, “Following lengthy discussions, and having received feedback from the business community, we feel we have no option other than to postpone next week’s Skills Conference.
“Many businesses and organisations in the region are putting travel restrictions in place and policies which limit attendance at large-scale events.
“We explored other ways to stage the Skills Conference but it was important to us to host an inclusive and interactive event and it didn’t feel right to have the conference without businesses attending in person.”
