Lincoln based Unconventional Distillery have announced the launch of their first spiced rum, Charybdis.

Using a blend of spices among flavours of orange and cherry, the new drink is sure to play a unique part in the spiced rum market.

Launched in 2019, Unconventional Distillery curates new and complimentary flavours within the array of rums they sell, with the Charybdis spiced rum being in the works for two years in attempts to create the perfect recipe.

Sam Owen, Managing Director of Unconventional Distillery

Sam Owen, Managing Director said: “When we launched in September 2019 we brought to the market the world’s first botanically distilled rum, Pioneer.

“Since then we have been busy working to create new flavours, launching a spiced rum has always been one of our main priorities but we wanted to make sure we got the flavours and blend that would suit our distillery.

“The spiced rum market is the most popular flavour so we wanted to make sure we have something that people will remember.”

The name Charybdis, pronounced Kha-rub-dis, is derived from a sea monster and daughter of Poseidon in Greek mythology.

The team were keen to move away from the traditional branding used by many distilleries whilst still remembering the heritage of rum.
