CityX took five minutes to talk to Primal Life Gym to find out more about the business and its plans for the future.
Tell us a bit about your business and what you do?
Primal Life Gym is a family run strength and conditioning facility in the heart of Lincoln, welcoming a range of members of all ages, abilities and experience. It’s been up and running since the middle of 2019 with a focus on keeping a friendly, vibrant community feel to the gym.
Inside the 7000sqft space there’s a great range of resistance and dynamic equipment to get you in great shape, we have a unique appeal to those who love to lift heavy and get strong but without the aggressive and sometimes damaging atmosphere that can be seen in other gyms. With a fully stocked supplement store come cafe, an on site sports & massage therapist, access to 4 highly experienced coaches, plus a unique Brazillian Jiu Jitsu academy within the facility there is a full set of services for any fitness enthusiast to make use of.
Have you got any news or updates you would like to share with us?
So far we have been preparing the gym for the inevitable re-opening, we have been working on guidance from UK Active who are working closely with the government to get the best possible guidance in relation to how and when we could re-open.
Social Distancing will play an important role in the first phase of reopening for us, alongside rigorous cleaning and sanitisation of the gym equipment and the site in general. Stations will be laid out around the gym to allow members to clean down equipment once they’ve finished using, or before they start.
Certain areas will remain locked off for phase one, such as changing rooms and close quarters seating areas. Members will be asked to arrive ‘gym ready’ rather than being able to get changed on site.
Fortunately as a relatively new gym, with lots of space we are in a unique position to offer an enhanced layer of safety when it comes to social distancing, we have been re-arranging the gym to get maximum bang for buck for members whilst adhering to the guidance set out by UK Active, this should give members access to 100% of the kit we had pre-lockdown.
What are your future plans for the business?
This first half of 2020 has been entirely disruptive for our sector, we’ll have been closed for almost a quarter of a year and that’s bound to have significant impacts on what the businesses trajectory will be in the coming months.
Thankfully, we’re in a position to grow coming out of the back of this downturn, providing customers are confident in us and how we’re managing the safety of the staff and members. That element of trust is going to be a huge factor for most businesses in the hospitality & leisure industry. How safe customers feel in the premises will determine a lot about how these types of businesses are able to grow again, we recognise that and we’re doing everything in our power to make sure our members feel welcome, safe and confident in what we’re doing.
Conventional plans for growth have to be re-designed, how we viewed the business in January of this year is now an entirely different picture, and in truth nobody knows exactly when things will feel normal. All we can do is give our members the best possible service, shout about the really good things we’re doing to the rest of the world and let people come see for themselves.
