Lincolnshire-based bridalwear designer, Sanyukta Shrestha, has recently won the Editors Choice Award 2020 at the annual Bridal Buyer Awards.
The multi-award winning designer, Sanyukta, lives in the Lincolnshire Wolds, and promotes sustainability through her bridalwear by using organic fair-trade fabrics, and her brand promises to fight for an ethical workforce, the environment and to support women empowerment.
The Bridal Buyer Awards is acknowledged worldwide as the leading awards ceremony of the bridal industry in the United Kingdom, and it aims to highlight companies and individuals who are leading by example and excellence in their field.
The black-tie event attracts an audience of more than 600 guests from all sectors of the bridal industry, including retailers, suppliers, designers and the media and is referred to as the “Oscars of the bridal industry”.
Already honoured with two other awards this year ‘Wedding Boutique of the Year 2020’ and ‘Good Brand Awards 2020’, the designer’s representation of sustainable choices of luxury bridalwear made it a unique brand that stood out not for the beauty of the designs, but for the history behind them.
Sanyukta is dedicated to empower local artisans from Nepal and embrace cultural diversity, and has been helping the vulnerable communities in the UK and Nepal during the pandemic with ‘The Kind Mask Project’.
This involved making and donating thousands of handmade masks and PPE visors for NHS and key workers in the UK, donating eco-friendly reusable masks for the homeless through the Crisis charity, and donating special masks and food to vulnerable communities in Nepal.
Sanyukta said: “We are so honoured and beyond grateful to win ‘The Bridal Buyer – Editor’s Choice Award 2020’ for our Brand’s commitment to battling the Covid-19 Crisis and supporting people in need and our community.
“I never imagined that I will be awarded for my compassion and for standing behind something that I truly believe in; Supporting each other during difficult times.”
“We are so mesmerised for this special recognition and to be able to give back to our community and spread kindness to a world that now needs it more than ever.”
Bridal Buyer Awards said: “Judging the annual Bridal Buyer Awards each year is always a difficult task, and despite the changes to our normal awards this year, the judging was equally hard.
“The “Editor’s Choice Award 2020” recognises the outstanding commitment to battling the COVID-19 crisis; And Sanyukta Shrestha was a clear winner.
“The designer’s attitude towards helping others is outstanding and the judging team was inspired by the work she has done and continues to do.
“Her work was a real stand out and the judges here are in awe of what she has done during this difficult time.
“This uncertain, unpredictable and unknown time has been difficult and created many challenges, but it has also produced some incredible acts of kindness and innovative thinking.”
“Once again, the bridal industry has gone above and beyond to provide exceptional service.
“In light of this, we decided not to run the full awards ceremony and gala dinner this year. Instead we announced nine categories of Special Recognition Awards that are more in keeping recognising kindness, resilience, innovation and community support within the industry with a special one-off programme.”
