Lincolnshire plunged into Tier 3 despite Council pleas

This story is over

Despite a letter to sent to Robert Jenrick MP, Secretary of State for Housing and Communities by the Leader of Lincolnshire County Council; the entirety of Lincolnshire will be plunged into Tier 3.

Yesterday Councillor Martin Hill, Leader of Lincolnshire County Council and Chair of the Lincolnshire Outbreak Engagement Board wrote to ask that Lincolnshire wouldn’t be allocated a single tier across the whole county.

Cllr Hill wrote “We absolutely understand the need to have tiers and social restrictions as a key part of the strategy to contain the Covid-19 virus. However, I must impress on you to look at Lincolnshire differently and at a very local level.

Lincolnshire is the second biggest county in the country with seven different districts, all with different community types and levels of the virus.

…It would seem ineffective and potentially damaging to have the whole of the county at the same higher level ‘Tier 3′, stifling businesses, the local economy and affecting residents’ wellbeing, in areas where there is simply no need.”

Seemingly the pleas from local leaders the letter fell on deaf ears as the tier for Lincolnshire was a blanket tier 3, the highest tier to be placed in and will come into effect on December 2. It is understood that the first opportunity for the tier choice to be reviewed will be 2 weeks from the end of lockdown, December 16.
