Visit Lincoln is launching their ‘Shop Lincoln’ campaign in hopes of encouraging people to support local independent shops in the run up to Christmas this year.

At the centre of the campaign is the Shop Lincoln website which has a comprehensive list of shops in the city, and links directly through to their ecommerce site.

Shop Lincoln is part of the wider ‘Christmas in Lincoln’ promotion which is being delivered with Lincoln BIG and City of Lincoln Council.

The Christmas webpages receive over 200,000 unique visits every year, and nearly 1million visits through the Visit Lincoln website.

Speaking about the campaign, Charlotte Goy CEO of Visit Lincoln, said: “Shop Lincoln includes a digital marketing and a social media campaign.

“It will focus on the brilliant range of gifts that people can buy locally – and the inspiring individuals who run these businesses and make the city such a great place to shop, live, work and visit.

“The website was originally built by Lincoln BIG, it was gifted to Visit Lincoln and we have worked hard to update it quickly so it is ready for the ‘Christmas in Lincoln’ campaign.

“In the New Year we will continue investing in it, so it can form part of our Covid recovery work for Lincoln.”

Lincoln is in the country’s top 50 retail destinations and has over 200 locally owned shops and boutiques creating a unique city centre experience.

From the cobbled streets of the Bailgate and Uphill area, the new Cornhill Quarter and High Street, through to the Waterside Centre, St Marks Shopping Centre and the street markets – Lincoln has an abundance of independent retailers and specialist shops to cater for all tastes and needs.

Simon Walters, Director for Communities and Environment at City of Lincoln Council said: “We are proud to be working alongside Visit Lincoln to encourage both residents and those who normally visit our incredible city to shop locally and support small independent businesses.

“We are very lucky to have such an array of unique businesses in the city and we are doing everything we can to help and promote them during this difficult time.”

The Shop Lincoln website will be updated daily, and Visit Lincoln is working with Lincoln BIG to make sure information about free local delivery and personal drop-off services are included from Levy Payers.

Speaking about the collaboration, Sarah Loftus CEO at Lincoln BIG, said: “The focus has to be on helping businesses trade online until lockdown restrictions are lifted.

“And once it is safe to do so, we are looking forward to welcoming people back into Lincoln and helping them enjoy the Christmas activities we have planned.”

The Shop Lincoln campaign will also run alongside the virtual Lincoln Christmas market, which is being delivered via Lincoln City Council this year.
