Assistant Director for Towns Fund and Head of Economic Development and Tourism at East Lindsey District and Boston Borough Councils, Lydia Rusling is set to host a national Public Policy Exchange event this Thursday which looks at the future of tourism in the UK.

Lydia has been invited to host the event due to her vast knowledge of the sector, including that gained during her time as Chief Executive at Visit Lincoln.

Hosted virtually, ‘Tourism in the UK: Building for the Future and Supporting Further Growth’ will see tourism organisations, local authorities, regional economic groups, and other key stakeholders come together to discuss the challenges faced by the tourism industry as a result of the pandemic, which has had profound impacts on visitor numbers, spending, and employment.

Attendees will also work to develop innovative ideas to help strengthen the industry for the future, including creating sustainable workforces, ensuring greater collaboration, and how the ‘staycation’ model can be further marketed.

Speaking about her role as host for the event, Lydia said: “I am looking forward to being part of a national discussion on the future of tourism.

“We have seen first-hand the devastating impact of the pandemic on our coastal resorts and tourism businesses across the Wolds.”

“This event will not just look at the challenges but hear from the industry’s leaders on strengthening the future of tourism for the UK.

“I believe that we have an opportunity to explore a new community focused re-start for tourism, which benefits our places and residents”.
