Docks Beers announce release of first sour beer

Lincolnshire-based Docks Beers have today released their first ever sour beer ‘Fruits of Labour’.

The new sour beer is a 5.5% triple berried sour, made with blackberries, blackcurrants and black peppercorns and the team at Docks Beers are urging people who have never tried this style of beer before, to try this one.

Sharam Shadam, Director of Docks Beers, said: “Sours are one of my favourite beer styles.

“They have an intentionally acidic, tart, or sour taste and I’ve always been fascinated by the science that goes into producing one.

“We wanted our first sour to be accessible, so we have crammed it full of fruit flavours to balance the sourness.

“If you’re new to drinking sours, I think that Fruits of Labour is an ideal first beer to try.”

“It will open your eyes to the world of sour beer.

“We are so pleased with the results that it has whet our appetite for making more sours and we look forward to exploring different styles and flavours later in the year.”

Mike Richards, Director and Head Brewer at Docks Beers, describes it as a “Punchy fruity sour beer, rich with sweet, sour, tart and spicy flavours.

“The sweetness from the berries is nicely offset by the pepper and sourness and it’s hopped with Willemette and Tettnanger for a spicy, herbal finish.

“The end result is a deep and rich purple-pink beer, which is complex but also has great drinkability.

“It’s ideal for the warmer months to come.

“Fruits of Labour is definitely the first of many more sours for us!”

The can features the artwork of Kirk Arnold of Grimsby-based agency Source 4 and his illustration of cupped hands filled with berries references the beer’s fruity flavours.

Jack Johnson, Marketing Manager of Docks Beers said: “The brief we gave Source 4 was to get across just how fruity this sour is.

“We think they have nailed it with this design. Kirk’s impactful drawing and the intense purple colour will definitely stand out on the shelves.”

Fruits of Labour is available in 440ml cans and can now be purchased from docksbeers.com or the taproom shop on King Edward Street, Grimsby, which opens from 12pm till 6pm from Wednesday to Saturday.
