Popular Italian coffee bar Bar Unico is managing to expand despite the pandemic by launching a new service to cater for wedding and events.
Owner Giovanni Carchedi, who set up the bar in Lincoln’s St Benedict’s Square eight years ago, has invested in a hand built gelato cart made in Sicily which is available for hire for private parties.
Gio explained: “Like a lot of other businesses we had to close during lockdown and furlough our staff for several months. Even when we could reopen for takeaways it wasn’t really viable as everyone was rightly staying at home.
“Although it’s been a really challenging time we’ve been able to not only reopen the bar but add a new arm to the business which will make it more sustainable for the future.
“Our customers love our gelato so we thought, why not increase and improve that offer by purchasing a new cart which will enable even more people to enjoy the fantastic taste of our authentic Italian-style ice-cream?
“The cart has been built to an extremely high standard by Italian craftsmen and will make a stunning addition to any celebration such as a wedding or garden party. I can’t wait for people to see it for themselves!”
As well as starting the new wedding and events business, Bar Unico is also increasing its range of gelato flavours and waffle cones to include gluten-free, honeycomb and chocolate, all of which are suitable for vegetarians.
To celebrate the launch, the new cart will be parked outside Bar Unico on St Benedict’s Square in Lincoln today, Friday 2nd July serving free gelato between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
