Eye health clinics join Mr Motivator to raise funds

This story is over

Three Lincolnshire eye health clinics and surgical centres will be working up a sweat with TV’s Mr Motivator next month to raise money for seven brain tumour charities across the UK.

The staff, from the Newmedica services in Grimsby, Brigg and Lincoln, have spent the last month limbering up ready for their ten day workout challenge to start on Wednesday 30 March.

Mr Motivator, aka Derrick Evans MBE, will be kicking off the challenge with a special live stream introduction which will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube.

Then it will be over to the team to keep their energy up to raise as much money as possible for Brain Tumour Research and six of its member charities.

All funds raised will be used to support vital services for people affected by a brain tumour and for critical research to find a cure, and the Grimsby team have set up a JustGiving page for anyone who fancies chipping in for the cause: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/newmedica-team3

According to Brain Tumour Research, brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, and just 12.5% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour survive beyond five years compared with an average of 50% across all cancers.

Brain Tumour Research funds sustainable research at dedicated centres in the UK. It also campaigns for the Government and the larger cancer charities to invest more in research into brain tumours in order to speed up new treatments for patients and, ultimately, to find a cure.

Alice Brumby, an ophthalmic assistant at Newmedica Lincolnshire and one of the team taking part in the challenge, said: “We’re all really excited to start the challenge and to raise funds for such a good cause at the same time.

“There’ll be a new workout every day, so we definitely won’t get bored, and there’ll be lots of levels so we can improve our fitness and support the charity at our own pace.”

Helen Labrom, operational director for the Newmedica services in Lincolnshire, said: “I’m very proud of the team and feel privileged to be in a position to raise money for such a great cause.”
