Commenting rules

Lincolnshire Reporter welcomes your comments and feedback for each story we publish. Before you engage, here are the house rules, which all commenters must follow in order to maintain an informative conversation for all our readers.

How do I comment?

Lincolnshire Reporter uses a hybrid commenting system, tightly integrated with the Facebook social network. The easiest way to leave a comment is to login with your Facebook credentials, which is fast and secure.

Once you type in your comment, you can choose whether it will be cross-posted on your Facebook profile, and you’re ready to go.

If you do not have a Facebook account, you can create one for free.

Do you moderate comments?

Yes, Lincolnshire Reporter post-moderates all incoming comments. This means that they will go up on the site immediately (we use a blacklist to automatically block comments using offensive words), and our team will look over them periodically, to see whether they abide by the code of conduct.

We reserve the right to remove any offensive or inappropriate comments, and will blacklist repeat offenders to maintain an informative conversation for our readers.

Which comments will you delete?

Lincolnshire Reporter will remove any comments that:

  • are insensitive, abusive, off-topic, use excessive foul language;
  • include ad hominem attacks including comments that celebrate the death or illness of any person, public figure or otherwise;
  • contain racist, sexist, homophobic and other slurs;
  • are solicitations and/or advertising for personal blogs and websites;
  • are posted with the explicit intention of provoking other commenters or the staff at Lincolnshire Reporter;
  • contains content that may infringe the copyright or intellectual property rights of others or other applicable laws or regulations.

Please note: When we remove a comment, it will only be deleted from Lincolnshire Reporter, but not from the commenter’s Facebook account. This means that general readers will not be able to see the comment, whether they are logged in on Facebook or not, but the commenter’s Facebook friends will still be able to see it.

Corrections comments: Comments that highlight required corrections will be dealt with as soon as possible and will be removed once the issue has been resolved.
